Restorative Re-Entry Intervention Policy (Post At-Home Suspension)

Students returning from an at-home suspension will participate in a structured re-entry process designed to support accountability, reflection, and improved decision-making.

Upon return to campus, the student will be required to meet with their assigned school counselor for an initial re-entry conference. This meeting will focus on:

  • Reviewing the incident that led to the suspension
  • Reflecting on the impact of the student’s behavior on themselves and others
  • Identifying triggers, patterns, and areas for growth
  • Establishing goals for improved behavior and academic success

Following the initial meeting, the student will participate in a three-week restorative intervention cycle facilitated by the counselor. This intervention is designed to provide ongoing support and may include:

  • Weekly check-ins with the counselor
  • Goal setting and progress monitoring
  • Social-emotional skill building (e.g., conflict resolution, impulse control, decision-making)
  • Restorative conversations or activities to repair harm where appropriate
  • Academic support planning to address missed instruction

This approach aligns with restorative practices, which emphasize repairing harm, strengthening relationships, and helping students remain connected to the school community rather than relying solely on punitive discipline.

The goal of this intervention is not punishment, but growth. Students are supported in developing the skills necessary to make better choices, rebuild trust, and successfully reintegrate into the school environment.
