Overview

PAL® Peer Assistance and Leadership

Dear Student:

You are invited to apply to be part of the PAL® peer helping class at El Cerrito Middle School for the 2020/2021 school year.

PAL® students help mediate student conflicts, tutor peers, mentor students with special needs, befriend at-risk students, learn leadership skills, write resumes, improve public speaking skills, are involved in assemblies, organize events, and interview PAL® applicants just to name a few things.

A PAL® student must: have concern for the welfare of others, be able to listen attentively to others, have self-confidence, be honest, be discreet, have initiative, have volunteer time available outside of school (6 hours per quarter) and have exemplary grades (3.5+ GPA and no C’s  in 6th  or 7th grade).

In 2020-2021 PAL® will be made up of 7th and 8th grade students.  PAL® is aligned with both lunch blocks.  As part of the PAL® program, you and your PAL® peers will be eating lunch with 7th graders some days and 8th graders on others.  The PAL® class takes the place of a Success for School or Math Enrichment course.  If you struggle to maintain your good grades, PAL® is not the right program for you.  PAL® students receiving grades of C- or below in any class or a C+ or below in PAL® will have two weeks to remedy the grade before being reassigned to a Success for School class until the grade improves.  PAL® students are expected to meet the school’s dress code standards and are expected to wear their PAL® program shirt each Friday.  Failure to meet school dress codes and/or wear PAL® shirt on multiple occasions may result in reassignment to a Success for School class.

If you are interested in joining PAL®, please complete the application form.   Return your completed application, a copy of your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Quarter grades(1st and 2nd semester in elementary schools), and any other relevant information with your registration packet.  Thank you in advance for your interest in our program.

Sincerely,

Mr. White
